Branding

Let's consider for a moment the strength of a brand. How often do we find, after completing our need recognition, we enter the information search process of the purchasing cycle with the complete and utter faith that we know exactly what we need and want, only to find that we are swayed by a memorable tagline, well recognised brand and a positively swayed illusion; a brand that just because we recognise and have a positive recall of the its reputation and success, makes us pay that extra 30-40%. I, among all of you reading this, am guilty of over spending my defined budget on a product that I believe will bring greater overall value to myself or, in the corporate world, the organisation that I work for.

Cramer and Koene hit the nail on the head in there published journal 23plusone, stating that “Although we think that decision-making about brands depends strongly on functional benefits, it all comes down to one question: how will this make me feel?” In Summary, the reason we purchase a product with a stronger brand isn’t because it will perform better on functional value, it is because the brand of the product makes us feel more satisfied with our purchase. This derives the question, where does price difference start to outweigh the value of the brand? The simple answer is that this relies on two factors, one intrinsic and the other extrinsic. The intrinsic factor is the overall strength of the brand, how well the company has grown the brand and been able to create value in its grouped target market. The extrinsic factor is personal preference and individual criterion, which is uncontrollable from a business perspective and cannot be changed through holistic attempts at strengthening the brand.

How does all this relate to PowerLink and the generator industry you say?

Recent strategic marketing initiatives have changed the intrinsic, controllable brand image that PowerLink wishes to portray about the company’s products. Instead of a prior holistic approach to marketing, forming mixed messages and recognisable flaws in the branding armour; marketing efforts are now defined by whether they are aimed at distributors, or aimed at end-users. By segmenting our marketing and branding initiatives, we are better prepared to shape more realistic value for both segments, growing the overall value of the brand by breaking it down into parts and then increasing the value of those parts. So in relation to Cramer and Koene’s 23plusone, each individual activity is assessed to consider how each segment can obtain value from it, and how the company can shape and manipulate the way in which messages are delivered, to increase the positive feelings towards the brand.

Mining and Engineering NSW 2012: A Great Success for Power Link

On the 28th August 2012, PowerLink Australia exhibited a range of products to the New South Wales mining community  at the 2012 Mining and Engineering  Exhibition held in Newcastle.

The show was a great success with a large number of high profile and important members of the NSW mining community visiting Power Link at stand 5010. Essential to the success of the show was it’s ability to allow us access to the decision makers and influencers in the decision making process for a number of large distributors, rental companies and mining sites.

One of the key requirements of success at the show was based around how well we could display the Power Link brand to potential clients, as well as emphasise our growth and dominance in  the industry to existing distribution partners and end-users. After-all, security  and trust in the brand is one of Power Link’s main goals  to gain higher brand value among all customers and business partners.

Another important development was the quality of information that was collected over the three days. Local information for the Hunter region rental market and mining industry will become increasingly valuable  in modifying Power Link’s range of Australian specification products for these industries.

With the presence of experienced sales staff from Power Link Australia, as well as Powerlite sales representative Ken Fackler, the company was able to supply on site information to all queries and questions regarding Power Link’s product range.

As a whole, if  we take into consideration the site location, right next to the entrance and exit, and marketing activities, such as promotional girls and audio visual displays, the show was very successful from both a branding and leads generation perspective.

Thanks to Mining and Engineering New South Wales for organising an excellent event, that was well worth attending., and thanks to all the Power Link team for helping to strengthen the brand that we have created here in Australia.

The Power of YouTube and Social Media

According to YouTube.com, the website sees four billion video views globally every day with 1 hours worth of video uploaded every second. It is farfetched to think that such a simple concept of sharing opinions and views via an online video database, would be the second largest search engine in the world right after Google.

Based on the overwhelming size of the YouTube database, it would be senseless not to use this media channel as a brand building, brand strengthening and value distribution system. However, before diving straight into the abyss that is social media, it is absolutely essential to strategise and consolidate a group of core messages and values that you want customers/ potential customers to regularly assoicate with your brand. At PowerLink we have designed a four point check list to determine whether or not a message to be distributed through this channel will satisfy our ideal branding strategy and market position.

1. Does the message reflect our companies mission statement?
2. Does the message educate the core values of the product and brand?
3. Will this message strengthen the current brand message or possibly shape and change it? If so, to what extent will it be shaped and changed, and is this ideal?
4. Will this message create value?

Asking these four questions helps us to understand whether the content we are issuing to our market, is valuable to them as a consumer/client and/or does the collateral add value to our business.

Below you can find the link to PowerLink's YouTube channel which shows a series of videos that have been scrutinised under these 4 check list points, as well as thoroughly analysed on the value to PowerLink and customers.

The 8000W metal halide light, powered by a 12kW prime rating Kubota engine, can provide enough brightness with little energy, thus one of the most economic ways to convert electrical energy into light. In comparison to other lighting towers on the market, the ALT15000A Powerlink lighting tower is the closest you can get to natural light, amplifying why it is widely used in a range of international commercial and industrial markets.

The superior performance of the lighting tower ensures stable and reliable lighting for any mining site. Brand Reputation

You'll often find manufacturers keep a close eye on the public response to their products, linking this public appraisal back to the validity of their branding strategy. A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person, in that you earn a good reputation by showing that you can consitently deliver and perform at a level equal to or above expectations. Hence, all businesses should be asking the question, how do our customers perceive our brand and whom are they passing this perception on to? Like a kid in the school yard, reputation doesnt just meet the individuals that directly associate with you, it meets all the kids in the playground.

PowerLink machines recognises that their main ally and fo towards success in new markets is branding and brand associations. Advantageous is the use of the well regarded and internationally experienced brand 'PowerLink' in selling products to new customers and new markets. Alternatively, the brands association with the stereotypical 'poor quality' Chinese products is one that serves much worry among marketing personal within the company. This would be the case with most multinational companies and thus poses the question, how do we turn a negatively driven brand association and turn it into a positive?

1. Identify the negative association
2.Acknowledge to the market that you understand their negative perception, and challenge your company to prove these negative perceptions to be false.
3.Identify the main attributes of your brand that you want to sell
4. Target the primary audience with these attributes
5. Continuously educate them to these value attributes of this product
6. Modify and refine

For example;

PowerLink Soundproof Diesel Generating Sets EP Series—WPS450S

The WPS450S is an outstanding representative of PowerLink’s range of soundproof diesel generating sets. This set is characterized by its high efficiency, low emission levels, safety features and its position on remaining environmentally-friendly. These gen sets are used in a wide range of industries and places, such as telecom, hotels, hospitals and shopping malls which all have strict requirements on power supply stability and noise reduction.

Competitive Differentiation: When being different makes a difference

'When being different makes a difference'

On the verge of becoming a market leading company in Australia, PowerLink machines continues striving towards growth through simply differentiating itself from all competitors. “Differentiation is the key to our growing success in this market. We continue to shape our products around our end-users and their specific requirements, which gives us a great competitive advantage in an industry guided by regulations and specific requirements” Chris Dyce, Marketing Co-ordinator at Powerlink Australia. What makes PowerLink most unique in the Power Generation, Air Compressor and Lighting Towers industry is their attitude towards their limitations. “All Chinese products come with a certain stereotype of being poorly manufactured, which is quite damaging to our business. Proactively looking at this situation we directly challenge our customers to eliminate the stereotype through a guarantee of providing the most reliable product at the highest value in the market” Chris Dyce, Marketing Co-ordinator at Powerlink Australia. According to CEO of Touchmedia, Micky Fung “Many people think of China as just a factory for making things invented and designed elsewhere," this is not the image that PowerLink wishes to portray for their company.

PowerLink is a company born and bred in China, with successful operations spanning over three decades. With high success of all PowerLink generator products throughout China, PowerLink has expanded its operations over the past decade to introduce their products to more than 100 countries, with wholesalers or production facilities located in all major global economic hubs. Expanding into new markets has been challenging, yet incredibly rewarding, with all PowerLink products showing signs of end-user adoption, with continuing growth in all international markets.

So how does an emerging generator manufacturer company continue to grow during world-wide financial hardships? Competitive differentiation: Giving end-users what the other companies won’t, which is flexibility, adaptation and customization to product design. Providing a standardised product with the ability to add extended product accessories and spare parts to the machines enables customers to build their own optimum product, tailored to their individual and industry requirements. This way the customer only pays for what they need and want, upholding the highest value for customers based on their requirements and purchase price.

Vision

In attempt to become a market leading company in Australia, Powerlink must rely on a clear and consistent vision, resonating throughout the business and its employees, in order to continually improve and become more competitive in the market.

What is vision?

Vision is an aspirational future of an organisation or individual, which sees people accomplishing their individual and business goals. It guides us to making current choices based on future rewards.

Vision and Productivity;

Vision is an arrow in the right direction; it is kryptonite to procrastination.

Vision and productivity go hand-in-hand; in fact you could even say that vision is the key to continuing productivity. Let us take a scenario where you are sitting at your desk, its 4PM on a Friday afternoon, and you've met all the deadlines for the entire week. What do you do? Most of us with a flexible work life would make an early escape to beat the Friday afternoon traffic or sit on Facebook, Twitter etc. for the next hour or two. Those of us that understand both the companies’ vision and have our own sense of personal vision would use this time to tackle our long term goals. This may come in the form of planning, or chipping away at long standing projects that will add value to both the company and our job role.

How to provide clearer vision:

They say you've got to know where you've been to know where you're going. Providing a clear direction for the future entails looking back at trends and patterns, what has been successful and what has failed, and ultimately where things can be improved upon. Undertaking a new task, new role or new job will always prove to be easier if you understand what has happened in the past before you start. Has somebody else already made starts at the project before you? What can I learn from the person who had the role or job before me? What mistakes did they make? What things did thy do well? Answering these questions about the past is always going to be beneficial in providing a clearer vision for the future.

Having a clear vision:

Powerlink Australia’s vision is “to become a world leading brand and promote the image and status of our products within the Australian market”. Obviously to achieve this, we need to break our vision down into a series of short term and long term goals, however if we have a strong and continuous aim, there will never be a lack of productivity.

Value

What does value mean? Who determines the value of something? How do we measure value if everyones opinion of what is valuable is different? How do you generate more value? Why don't businesses understand the meaning of value?

Value, in definition, refers to an individuals importance put on a particular something ultimately determining its final worth to that person. So why is this so important to consider when generating an idea or developing a product for a wide buying community?

Particularly in the power generation industry there is much debate on whether to attack 'value' from a holistic stand point or do we focus on developing products that are easily customised. Is it better to improve the standardised model of a product to increase the perceived overall value of the product or do we let people pick and choose what added features they want?

Powerlink Generator Sets attempt to maintain a uniformed balance of value for their clients by offering standardised products with a low cost to high usage value ratio. On top of that, accessories, extended product lines and spare parts are offered to maximise the efficiency of generator products for individual usage.

So maybe we have to find that balance between standardisation and customisation. People who buy our products need to know that other customers value the product first, however the highest source of value is going to come from customers purchasing a product they want and need at a price that is considered good across what is individually offered to them.

Powerlink: Sustainability

In these more turbulent economic times, you may be asking yourself; what is the secret to ensuring the longevity of my business and its future success? How does one ensure that their business will weather the storm of a potential second financial recession and come out to emerge as a stronger, more valuable business entity?

The answer is sustainable businesses practices.

PowerLink Machine, a world leading manufacturer of diesel generators, air compressors and lighting towers, understands the importance of executing activities that ensure sustainable growth within their market. As an approach to prolonged growth PowerLink identifies that there are three areas that lead to sustainability; sustainable development, innovation and environmental development.

Sustainable development

Sustainable development is part of PowerLink's day to day routine and an important condition for long-term profitability and achieving the interests of customers and dealers. “The idea is to focus on providing solutions that benefit society, just as much as they benefit the company”. [Christopher Dyce 2012, Marketing Co-Ordinator PowerLink Machine Australia] Sustainable development comes in the form of problem resolution. Powerlink does not just provide add-ons to increase the cost of each unit, they understand the dynamics of customer life time value, and manufacture appropriately to satisfy current clients. This emphasises the principle that the best form of advertising is referral through word-of-mouth. Keep your current customers happy and they will be your best marketing tool.

Innovation

Powerlink relies on continuous innovation for sustainable growth. This comes in the form of new product development, supply chain management and investment in productivity research. Continuous growth in the range of products enables customs to select the exact products they require. It is essential to deliver customers exactly what they expect, plus a little bit more, ensuring continuous positive feedback. This does not only have to apply to the physical product, but may also include after sales support and customer service.

Environmental development

PowerLink constantly develops products in attempt to lower energy consumption, and provide pollution-free products, ultimately reducing the impact on the environment.

Also very important to consider are ways in which your company can reduce its impact on the environment. Businesses need to understand that in order to minimise wastage, provide customers with a clean and efficient product and prologue profitability, they must continue to think about green options. Continue to think about brand reputation, moderate, not rapid, growth, and overtime profitability with continuously be growing.

Cyclonic weather calls for Back-up

"Cyclonic weather conditions in Western Australia calls for Back-up Generators"
Powerlink Generators weathering the storm

Cyclonic weather conditions over the weekend have sent Western Australia’s main power supply into a shambles. At the peak of this erratic weather, 170,000 households and businesses were left without power in both Perth and the southwest of the state. There are still over 100, 000 homes without power in the southern half of Western Australia

Many residential homes, properties and businesses still remain without power, whilst several have been reliant on back-up power systems since Sunday. With 100’s of Powerlink generators in operation throughout Western Australia, many work sites, businesses and residential properties have been able to continue with regular day-to-day routines undisturbed. Western Australians are being urged to prepare for further damage and further blackouts with more extreme weather forecast for the coming weeks.

According to a report by Oxfam, the natural disaster rate has increased by 400% over the past two decades; from around 120 per year, to over 500 natural disasters being recorded each year. This poses the question whether we are actually gambling our money by preparing for extreme weather conditions, or are we simply analysing the given data and making logical and financially secure choices to prepare for a lifetime of inevitable harsh weather conditions. We insure our businesses and homes against damages, so why shouldn’t we insure our businesses against loss of productivity, or our homes against loss of lifestyle and home operations.

As a home or business owner, an emergency standby generator provides a safety net for continuous operations and uninterrupted routines. Powerlink Machines (AUST) provides a range of highly efficient and high performance diesel generators to act as either main or back-up power supply for any type of operations. Whether it be used for a black-out or highly intense workloads, a Powerlink generator set allow businesses and homes to maintain productivity 24/7 without interruptions. Powerlink diesel generator sets range between 5.5-2250 kVA, suitable for any form of use. Over 60,000 Powerlink generator sets and other machineries are providing efficient, cost effective power worldwide. Hence you can understand why Powerlink products are fast becoming the number one choice for commercial industries and home residences.
